Watch highlights from last year's Toy Story campaign below:

East Coast Radio’s General Manager, Boni Mchunu says that the Toy Story campaign is one that she is particularly passionate about as it addresses an imminent need in our country; education. "Every year during this time I feel a new sense of pride as I know that every year KZN come out in their numbers to support this life changing campaign. Last year we were able to make prominent upgrades to four underprivileged schools to help make their learning experience an easier one. We also collected and handed out over 10 000 new toys to children in our province, making their festive season a joyous one. This year with the help of KZN we hope to make an even bigger impact," said Mchunu.

Affiliate of Child Welfare South Africa Edith Benson Babies Home cares for children between the ages 0 to 5 years, having been either abandoned, orphaned, abused or neglected and were found to be in need of care and protection placed by court order.

Opened on 31 July 1946. Nineteen fifty-two marked the beginning of the Organisation’s work with the so-called Coloured community. During the 1960s, thanks to the Rattray brothers whose grandfather, the late William Clark, had willed rights to four and a half acres of land in Sherwood for the benefit of children, Edith Benson Babies Home in Tudor Place was sold and the new home on William Clark Garden’s complex was opened in October 1967. A crisis developed in 1977 when the Organisation had to vacate its offices.

Due to the untiring efforts of Mr Tom Bedford and a grant in aid from the City Council, together with substantial donations from the Robert Storm Trust, Patron Cecil Renaud and other benefactors, the organisation at last moved to its home in Windermere Road in 1978 – its Jubilee Year. Together with the City Council, this Organisation opened a shelter for street children in 1987.

Ekusizaneni Children’s Home

EKUSIZANENI CHILDREN’S HOME KWAMASHU During the 1980's and early 1990 eighties prior to the first, free democratic elections in South Africa, violence in the Kwa Mashu area was at its peak. This resulted in many killings and deaths of parents leaving behind orphaned children. In addition, there were also many orphans due to their parents dying of HIV/Aids and children infected by HIV/Aids. Mrs BF Mhlongo from the Ekusizaneni Children's Home, in K Section, made it her mission to care for these children and has since been a beacon of hope to destitute, orphaned and abused children in the KwaMashu area. The home currently cares for approximately 50 boys and girls from the ages of 3 to 18 but does not receive any assistance from Government and gets by with donations from organisations such as the Ramakrishna Centre in Durban and with the assistance of volunteers as it cannot formally employ caregivers. In Winter 2012, SRGFP collected food, clothes, blankets, linen and toys for the home with Aspen Pharmaceuticals.

We, at the Rising Sun Newspapers will continue to work with Feedy Needy to achieve their goals. The Feedy Needy team possesses great work ethic, compassion and the determination, that is needed to make a difference in our community. We commend them for their unselfish efforts and we feel honoured to be part of their mission.

God was definitely smiling upon our school, the day Mr Mahommed and his team entered the portals of our institution. Thay have made sterling contributions to our children, community and us as well by taking our children to fun outings, serving them meals, treating them with dignity and teaching them invaluable life skills via empowerment programmes. They epitomize the saying” the hands that serve are holier than the lips that pray”, by physically getting their hands dirty and being involved in all facets of the programmes. Their organizational skills, book keeping and accountability speaks volumes of their dedication and commitment. We are truly indebited to them for their selfless service to humanity and providing opportunities for the less fortunate. They carry themselves with dignity, respect and above all integrity. Society needs more humans of their caliber.

Phoenix Child Welfare

Bout Community Family Homes
The concept of the Community Family Home, developed by CHILD WELFARE DURBAN & DISTRICT (CWDD), has proven effective for maintaining groups of six children of different ages. The children are placed in the foster care of a house mother, in these family-style homes. These homes are a preferred alternative to child and youth care center's as the child remains within the community.

The Organization had since 1996 managed two such homes where after another three were opened during 2003 and 2004. Presently the organization supervises nine community family homes. Five community homes are run in partnership with Thokomala Orphan Care Organization, who finances these 5 homes, located in Newlands West, 2 in Isipingo and 2 in Umlazi. CWDD is responsible for the remaining 4 community homes, located in the following areas: 1 in Newlands East, 2 in Cato Manor and 1 in Chesterville. In order to maintain, manage and run the four community homes, the Organization actively and continuously fundraises.

The Organization renders ongoing professional services to these children. The community house mother receives a monthly allowance paid by CWDD and foster care grants from the Department of Social Development, towards the care of the children.

The children who are considered for placement at the community family homes are vulnerable children which includes AIDS orphans or children with no traceable relatives, nor any other alternative placement options available to them.

Potters House

Forming a man of God

As Wayman O. Mitchell became a born-again Christian in 1953 and in 1954 he was baptized in the Holy Ghost. He has been a pastor since 1960.

Meeting a Need

In 1970 Wayman and Nelda Mitchell moved to Prescott with their young family of five children to take over a small, struggling congregation. Shortly after arriving, God saved a number of young hippies who were very different than anyone in the church. As they were welcomed, God began to pour out His Spirit on the congregation.

Harnessing a Movement of God

As Pastor Mitchell sought to reach young people they saw the possibilities of the “coffee-house” concert ministry. At the first concert they ever tried as an evangelistic tool, more than 200 young people attended, with many saved. Out of this a regular concert ministry was birthed. Two nights a week, bands played, testimonies of salvation were given, and the Gospel was preached, with many being saved each night. This developed from the amazing youth focused 'Jesus People' revival and spilled over into the little country town of Prescott, Az. The 'Jesus People' revival was a direct result of the backlash to the ruinous counterculture movement of the 1960's that promoted the youth to "Tune In, Turn On, and Drop Out".

Forming the Fundamentals to Change the World

From the beginning, Pastor Mitchell understood that the concert ministry was to be a training ground of ministry development; it was run by young people who were committed to Jesus and His church. People who had been radically converted sought to share with others what God had done in them. Personal evangelism began to be one of the basic foundations of the church. Then came impact teams: Groups of people that would travel to other nearby cities to help people experience what God was doing in the Prescott congregation. Over time, God began to reveal His plan of discipleship: Training young couples for ministry within a local church as these converts lived with purpose and were able to send couples, or go themselves into neighbouring cities and states, as well as venturing overseas and then far off places like Australia.

Fulfilling God’s Mission

In 1973 the first couple was launched directly into the ministry – and God blessed them! Churches then began to be planted throughout the Southwestern United States, and then further across America as converts prayed for the Gospel to be preached in their hometowns.

In 1978 the first couple was planted into another nation – Australia; and it was discovered that the Gospel worked there, just like it did back home. After that, churches were planted in Mexico, Holland and Germany then as we came to understand God’s global mission more and more, churches began to be planted throughout the world. To date, there are over 2500 churches in 46 US states, and 126 nations of the world.

Pastor Mitchell has effectively pastored in many different countries, such as Canada, the United States of America, as well as Perth, Western Australia where his ministry and influence demonstrate his heart to see individual lives changed, redeemed and serving God with purpose and dignity to fulfil 'The Great Commission'.

Pastor Mitchell travels the world, and regularly visits the Beechboro Church to preach at the yearly International Bible Conference. Pastor Mitchell conducts frequent healing crusades, for which he has been likened to a modern-day Smith Wigglesworth due to the many evident and astounding miracles of healing and deliverance.

God has used Pastor Mitchell, his wife Nelda, and their family, due to their willingness to follow Christ regardless of the personal cost, to share the Good News of Salvation to everyone.

What could God do with your life?

"Go into all the world and preach the Good News of Jesus Christ to everyone..."

Peplex Charity Engages In Major Disaster Relief Programs

As poorer communities continue to struggle in the wake of Covid-19, Feedy Needy steps in to assist many individuals that cannot support their families. 1 in 5 children face hunger every day, and 1 in 4 children around the world suffer from chronic malnutrition that stunts growth. The biggest reason children are hungry, around the world, is poverty.

Poverty often means children not only don’t have enough to eat, they don’t have access to basic necessities.

As the lock down eases, many still suffer from lack of necessities such as food, clothing and proper hygiene, as we have approached harsh weather conditions the spread of the Corona- virus increase rapidly.

In our fight to combat Covid -19, we have to assist those that are vulnerable and susceptible to the virus, starvation and hunger weakens the immune system .Peplex Charity aims to alleviate poverty from all angles. A warm blanket, a hot meal, toiletries and groceries will help hundreds of vulnerable and disadvantaged families and individuals.
We need your help.

We humbly appeal to all kind Samaritans to come on board and share your kindness, spread warmth and love , a little step forward and a helpful hand can change and even save a life.
Someone, somewhere out there eagerly await a touch of kindness and a little hope.Be that light, be that angel, stretch out your helping hand, reach out now.!

Be a part of the change!

Let’s together make the difference today, as tomorrow is never promised.
Peplex Charity Bringing Bright Smiles has touched the lives of many over the years and continue to assist daily.

Peplex Charity recently distributed juices , food hampers, cake flour, hot meals and sweet treats to many communities over the past week. We sincerely hope that we have made a difference in many homes and we pray for the well-being and safety of all those facing the Pandemic.

We once again thank all sponsors for continuous support.

With assistance of a Brookdale elderly couple Mr Peter and Mrs Dolly Pillay of Stonemanor, Mrs Selvie Ramadu of Glebbrook was donated a Bluetech 18" industrial fan from Peplex Charity for the heat to come whilst occupying a 1 room garage for the past 14 years. Unfortunately her fridge and stove unexpectedly stop working consecutively. Mr Peter and Mrs Dolly Pillay of Stonemanor donated there tithes every 3 months collection to Peplex Charity as they want to help the community. Thanks to them Selvy Ramadu can sleep with a little bit of comfort. Big note of appreciation to the staff Alan in Pic 1355 & 1658 of China mall assisting to assemble the industrial fan as it came in so many separate parts for Peplex Charity.

On route to visiting one of our elders of Brookdale Phoenix, another Brookdale resident Jessica Pillay was in need of assistance as the strain of covid had landed her son unemployed and husband on short time. Our sincere thanks Rashika and congratulations on your recent award Most Influential women of the year 2022.It's a global award hence national and Internationally recognized. I have never seen a women so deserving whom really puts in the physical work and makes the time for issues arising.Rashika Rampersad is really a 1 lady show. She does not worry about media attention, paperwork, invoicing just if there is a need she wants to help. The best part I seen about Rashika is how she stresses when she does not have enough for lunch club, the love she has to make sure these kids are fed consecutively are beyond words. We at Peplex Charity wish you only the best for 2022. Peplex Charity will still continue donate bread, porridge, polony even assist where ever we can.
